Eddy Current Separators (ECS) consist of a short conveyor, a head drum with a fast-rotating system of permanent magnets. The neodymium-iron-boron magnets generate strong eddy-currents, which eject non-ferrous metals from the material flow. Adjustable eccentric magnetic pole systems focus the effect of the alternating magnetic fields. This allows the application of force to be optimally adjusted for maximum ejection efficiency. These adjustments are now fully automated and programmable to each application. As residual ferrous metals cannot stick to the head pulley, this reduces wear to the belt and drum, resulting in a longer service life. Compared to concentric pole systems, an eccentric pole system can increase the metal yield by 50%.
An eddy current separator can sort aluminium, zinc, copper and brass efficiently, resulting in clean, marketable non-ferrous metals. WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and batteries can also be separated. This type of equipment can also be used to recover non-ferrous metals from municipal or demolition waste, shredder scrap and consumer packaging waste. Eddy current separators can be used to sort incinerated waste such as bottom ashes and slag. The high-frequency pole drum and separating splitter mechanisms can process a range of grain sizes, achieving high yields and purity levels.
